Thanks for the comment. I don’t believe Elton was inspired by Zappa’s album. Elton’s song is about a band. Zappa’s record was a tribute to doo-wop groups from the Fifties. Frank collected hundreds of doo-wop singles as a teenager.
Sun King was clearly inspired by Fleetwood Mac’s Albatross, don’t you think? John is raving about The Macs in a scene in Get Back
